“I am rereading Daniel Wallace’s The Kings and Queens of Roam. I’m reading it again because it’s a smart, entertaining tale, every bit as polished as his Big Fish and perfect for summer, but I’m also reading it with an author’s eye, as if it were a textbook. Daniel can sell anything, make it believable in a sentence or two, and that’s quite a writer’s trick, something worth studying. On deck is another trip through Larry Brown’s Joe, and after that I’m going to give Jamie Kornegay’s Soil a try. Soil is by far the buzz-book in my circles these days.”
