What do you recommend?

“What knocked me off my feet was Anthony Doerr’s All the Light We Cannot See. Just when you thought that nothing new could be written about in a World War II context, he tells us the story of a little French girl and a little German boy in the 1930s who you know are destined to meet during World War II. You wonder what’s going to happen. He writes literary fiction with a lot of interior monologue. He’s as different from my style of writing as anyone can be, and yet he maintains a furious pace to the story. I don’t know how he did it. I think the book will be studied in literature classes for the rest of the century.”
