“I’m reading ‘The Sicilian’ by Mario Puzo for perhaps the fifth time. I relish the high drama in all his books, but this one inspired me to start writing. The descriptions of Italy, the complex characters and Salvatore — oh, he’s such a romantic anti-hero — and based on a real-life bandit. So exciting. I reread it every few years.”

N. Cristina Pol, author of “Strangers in Café Havana.” Pol appears from 6-8:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Bookstore in the Grove at 3390 Mary Street, Coconut Grove.
