Rob and Michele Reiner's son Jake Reiner makes rare public appearance

Jake Reiner is back on a red carpet following the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner.

The 35-year-old son of the late Hollywood director attended the premiere of the new HBO series "Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness" in Los Angeles on Tuesday, June 23. Reiner appears in Larry David's new sketch show, which premieres on Friday, June 26, marking his first role since his parents' deaths.

The "War of the Worlds" actor's red carpet return comes after his younger brother Nick Reiner, 32, was charged in the fatal stabbings of Rob and Michele, who were found dead on Dec. 14 in their home in Brentwood, California.

Nick remains behind bars as he faces a first-degree murder trial after he pleaded not guilty.

The couple, who were married for 36 years, shared three children: Nick, Jake and daughter Romy, 28. Reiner also adopted Tracy Reiner, 61, the daughter of his first wife, the late actress and filmmaker Penny Marshall.

Jake Reiner shares emotional remarks on parents' deaths

In an April 24 Substack essay titled "Mom and Dad," Jake Reiner opened up about his parents' deaths, writing that he "was robbed of so many things that day."

"Nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time. It's too devastating to comprehend," Jake wrote in a "I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it's not a dream. This truly is my living nightmare."

He continued: "My parents won't be at my wedding, they won't get to hold their future grandchild, and they won't get to see me have the successful career I'm still seeking. It simultaneously breaks my heart and enrages me."

He said he couldn't even begin to "put myself in my parents' shoes, but one thing I keep coming back to is how frightened they must have been."

What has Nick Reiner been charged with?

Nick Reiner faces two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders in his parents' deaths, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

The 32-year-old screenwriter also faces a special allegation that he used a deadly weapon, a knife, in the December killings. If convicted of the special circumstance of multiple murders, he could face life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.

He has previously opened up about his journey battling drug addiction as well as homelessness, telling People in a 2016 interview he made his first visit to rehab at 15, and would return 17 times.

His 2015 film "Being Charlie," which he co-wrote and his father directed, is loosely based on the experience.
