‘Days of Our Lives' Legend Teases the ‘True Love' of Abe's Life Ahead of an Iconic Character's Return to Salem
Abe Carver's (James Reynold) life is about to come crashing down around him as Lexie Carver (Nikki Crawford) makes her shocking return to Salem on the Peacock streaming soap opera Days of Our Lives. Now Reynolds is opening up about what to expect from the story.
Reynolds was recently interviewed by The Soap Scene's reporter Erin Goldsby about his long career on Days of Our Lives, looking back on the types of stories he loved and reflecting on how the daytime landscape has changed since his first appearance over 45 years ago.
On-screen, unbeknownst to Abe, his current wife, Paulina (Jackée Harry), is keeping the fact that his late wife, Lexie Carver (Nikki Crawford), is alive from him. Lexie's brother E.J. (Dan Feuerriegel) has found a way to help her recover from her fatal brain tumor and recently revealed this fact to both Paulina and Abe's son, Theo (Tyler Joseph Andrews).
During the interview, Reynolds reflected upon who the love of Abe's life truly is. "I think the writers did a very good job in answering that question," he shared.
Teasing the outcome, Reynolds believes that fans will be happy with the journey. "I think everyone will be clear at the end of it," he shared. "I don't know that it would surprise most of the audience, but it's going to be interesting."
Abe and Lexie's romance began in 1987 when the role was played by Cyndi James Gosset. Abe was a detective on the police force when Lexie Brooks joined him as his partner. Throughout their cases, romantic feelings developed, and they eventually fell in love.
Lexie's role was portrayed by three additional actresses. Angelique Francis portrayed the role from 1989 to 1992, with Shellye Boughton briefly portraying it in 1993 before actress Renée Jones assumed the role and portrayed it until her retirement in 2012.
As a part of Jones final storyline as Lexie, the character was given an inoperable brain tumor that appeared to be fatal, with Lexie dying in her husband's arms. Now, over a decade later, Abe has moved on with his life and has started a new life with Paulina, but with Lexie set to return, is that happily ever after set to end sooner than later?
Viewers will have to tune in to see how the storyline plays out.
Days of Our Lives streams weekdays on Peacock.
