Was this Hialeah man abducted by aliens on his way to buy a lechon?
A stalled car is always a nightmare, but nothing compares to what happened to Filiberto Cárdenas on January 3, 1979 on Okechobee Road. The Hialeah resident and small business owner from Cuba was driving with friends and family to get a pig for a celebration when the car’s engine stopped.
What was the strange light that came down from the sky? What caused the car to shake? Where did the hum come from that had everyone in the car covering their ears? And where did Filiberto go?
What happened next is one of the most famous cases in the annals of ufology, which alleges that Cárdenas was abducted by aliens. The story of Cárdenas’ disappearance, which was described as a “close encounter of the third kind” and was picked up in the press even led to a police report, will be discussed in this week’s Miami Oculto podcast.
Where was Cárdenas those hours that his relatives were searching for him and why did they find him several miles away from where the car broke down? And when the doctors examined him, they found he had hundreds of punctures on his body, as if he had been in an acupuncture session.

Was he kidnapped by aliens?
To talk about UFO sightings, conspiracies, and deniers Miami Oculto invited journalist and writer Daniel Fernández, a lover and student of the subject of aliens. Fernández says that he met one of the doctors who treated Cárdenas, who underwent hypnosis and regressions to make him remember what had happened to him. Cárdenas, who had a reputation for being a serious person, finally spoke.
What was the ship where the aliens took him like, what kind of tests did they do and what was the message they gave him? Were some of the predictions of these beings fulfilled? Even a United States president was included in the predictions.
Fernández addresses some examples of what can be interpreted as contact between extraterrestrials and humans through religious texts at different historical moments; he discusses the Roswell case and tells anecdotes of a time when groups interested in paranormal and extraterrestrial phenomena would meet in Tropical Park or on the shore of Miami Beach at sunset.
