Screen gems

Big screen

Opening Friday

The Skeleton Twins (R): Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig, vets of Saturday Night Live, play estranged siblings who haven’t spoken in 10 years and are forced to reconnect after they try attempt to commit suicide on the same day. Warning: Despite the cast, this is more drama than comedy.

The Zero Theorem (R): Christoph Waltz, Tilda Swinton and Matt Damon star for director Terry Gilliam (Brazil, 12 Monkeys) in this sci-fi tale about a hacker being pursued by a mystery agency known only as the IRS — I mean “The Management.” Just kidding!

The Equalizer (R): Denzel Washington and director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) team up for this spinoff of the long-running TV crime drama about a retired commando who is forced back into duty to rescue a young girl from Russian gangsters.

The Boxtrolls (PG): An orphaned boy and his trash-collecting pals try to save his friends from an exterminator. This time, the roaches are the good guys.
