Journalist Ebony Reed discusses racial wealth disparities in new book

As the U.S. economy takes center stage in the Presidential race between U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and former U. S. President Donald Trump, Publisher’s Studio host Ron Stodghill discusses the racial wealth gap in America with journalist Ebony Reed, author of the bestselling book, “Fifteen Cents on a Dollar.” Through probing human profiles, investigative reporting, and social analysis, Reed and her co-author, former Wall Street journal colleague Louise Story, expose an economic system in which Black families earn on average fifteen cents for every dollar earned by white families. The financial disparity perpetuates a Black underclass that dates back to slavery and persists today. Along the way, Reed, who is Black, shares how the book’s collaboration forced her and Story, who is white, to confront painful truths about race, and create their own blueprint for enriched dialogue and collaboration for all Americans.

Ron Stodghill is an award-winning journalist and author whose career includes roles as a staff writer for the New York Times, Midwest bureau chief for Time, Washington correspondent for Business Week, and editor-in-chief of Savoy magazine. He is also the founder and publisher of the travel site DETOUR, a partnership between McClatchy media and the Missouri School of Journalism.
