A look inside Los Angeles’ invite-only bar
If you’re looking to add a little mystery to your nightlife, an evening of secret codes and craft cocktails at The Obscure in Los Angeles is perfect for you.
When I caught wind of The Obscure, a new invite-only distillery and cocktail bar in L.A., I had to find out how to get myself on that list. Thanks to the Instagram algorithm, I did just that. As it turns out, all you have to do is send a text to the owner, Theron. Text “#BeeObscure” to 213-513-7521, and you will receive a link with a special code to initiate your tasting invitation. Once you click the link, you will be presented with several dates, times and packages to choose from.
Part of the allure of The Obscure is the mystery. I won’t give too much away, but I can tell you that you’re required to dress in all black and be sure to arrive on time. All tastings and cocktails are crafted from the spirits made in the distillery. (Heads up: Please eat in advance as the pours are generous.)
Each cocktail was incredibly unique and unlike anything I’ve ever tasted before. The resident Potions Master, Hope Ewing, took her time to create well-crafted, well-balanced cocktails. And if you don’t drink, there is an equally expansive mocktails selection. You will be pleased and feel like a part of the party.
Once you complete your tasting, you are invited to return as a member to The Obscure. For a monthly fee, you will have the option to enjoy the bar each night after the evening tasting sessions have concluded.
Although I had eaten before, I definitely needed more food and some time to sober up before hitting the road. (Pro-tip: Rideshare is highly recommended.) There are several restaurants within walking distance including the attached Rising Sun, where you can dine and keep the evening going.
