In a world where travel expenses can often put a strain on one’s budget, there are still a few international destinations that offer week-long affordable accommodations. These low-cost options allow budget-conscious travelers to broaden their horizons without breaking the bank.

In-depth research was conducted by the folks at CIA Landlords Insurance to determine where you can find the most reasonably priced “self-catering” vacations, which include renting an Airbnb and buying your own groceries. Thrillist listed the five most affordable international Airbnb travel destinations, along with their weekly average prices.

  1. Bogota, Colombia ($260.65 per week)

  2. Ankara, Turkey ($275.10 per week)

  3. Riga, Latvia ($441.61 per week)

  4. Warsaw, Poland ($506.76 per week) and Bratislava, Slovakia ($506.76 per week)

In a striking contrast, Washington, D.C. emerges as the city with the highest Airbnb rates, demanding an average price of $192.17 per night. If you have an insatiable desire to witness an abundance of iconic American monuments during your upcoming vacation, it may be sensible to contemplate the idea of lodging slightly beyond the city limits.

In terms of the cost of groceries alone, Lisbon, Portugal joined Bogotá, Colombia, and Ankara, Turkey, as three of the world’s cheapest major cities. On the high end, Bern, Switzerland, came out on top, followed by Reykjavik, Iceland, and Washington, D.C.

The study, however, comes with certain limitations, primarily focusing on cities situated exclusively within the 38 member nations of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The complete study can be found on Cia-Landlords.co.uk.
