Steph Curry is taking his talents to Kentucky, announces the launch of whiskey brand
Golden State Warrior Stephen Curry is taking his talents to Kentucky – for whiskey. Curry is planning to be the MVP of the spirits world with the launch of his fine-aged bourbon brand, Gentleman’s Cut Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
“Celebrations take on many different forms, from intimate gatherings to major milestones, and at the center of each memorable moment is a spirit rooted in history and tradition,” said the four-time NBA Champion. “I’m proud to have helped carefully craft a new signature Kentucky Straight Bourbon, Gentleman’s Cut. This rich, complex and bold bourbon is the perfect offering to commemorate life’s great occasions, and will be part of a raised-glass toasting moment in the lives of my fans, friends and family.”
According to Food & Wine, Curry was reported to have been “intimately involved in every step of the process when making Gentleman’s Cut.” He was hands-on with every brand development phase, from marketing to manufacturing. Curry even took the time to learn the distilling process for his bourbon whiskey.
Gentleman’s Cut was distilled, aged and bottled by Game Changer Distillery in Boone County, KY. Curry partnered with John Schwartz, owner of the notable Amuse Bouche Winery in Napa Valley, to form a joint venture with Game Changer Distillery. Schwartz opened up about his excitement surrounding the “close collaboration.”
“We produced a high-quality aged bourbon offered at a great value that will resonate with bourbon connoisseurs and help grow the craft bourbon category to our global audience,” Schwartz remarked.
Game Changer Distillery is located on the Kentucky Craft Bourbon Trail. The distilleries along this trail are mentioned to have been pioneers in crafting spirits of the region, continuing a tradition of quality, grain-to-glass spirits methods.
Gentleman’s Cut was no exception. Food & Wine shared the process it took to create the spirit. The whiskey is distilled in 500-gallon copper pot stills, creating a “full-bodied palate and complex aromatic profile.” The whiskey is then moved to charred new white oak barrels, where it ages for another five to seven years. The intricate operation results in tasting notes of cinnamon, seared caramel and sweet toasted chestnut.
The brand’s name, Gentleman’s Cut, speaks to the art of crafting a quality spirit and Curry’s gracefulness on and off the court. The suggested retail price for Gentleman’s Cut is $79.99 per 750ml.
