Access to Puerto Rico from this major U.S. airport has recently improved
United Airlines has increased its Denver-based service by the dozens, with six new routes being added this week alone.
The carrier, according to Travel + Leisure, has added 35 flights out of Denver International Airport, giving passengers more options than ever before. The company has expanded by adding six new nonstop routes, including ones to Dayton, Greensboro, Lexington, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
United CEO Scott Kirby said in a statement that the company recognizes Denver as one of the fastest growing cities in the country and that as the most flown airline in the Mile High City, it is crucial that United maintain the most modern infrastructure and fleet to support its local employees and customers and deliver a great experience. “Our expansion in Denver will further enable us to connect our customers to destinations across the globe and revitalize our presence at the airport with modern, customer-friendly offerings,” he said.
United Airlines also announced that it will add 12 new gates to Denver Airport in 2024, joining the 20 gates it opened in the A and B concourses in 2022. In total, the airline said it will fly from Denver to more than 150 locations this summer, including nonstop service to Hawaii and to more than a dozen foreign locations like Tokyo and London.
The Denver expansion comes as summertime international travel is increasing. In fact, according to United, demand for international travel over the Memorial Day holiday weekend increased by 16 percent from the previous year and by 10 percent from before the 2019 pandemic. The busiest hubs of United are projected to be Newark, Chicago O’Hare, and Denver over the long weekend.
Lower supply, higher fuel costs, and high demand all contribute to making travel to Europe and Asia the most expensive summer destinations, as reported by Hopper. In fact, the cost of a flight to Europe has increased by 24 percent and the cost of a flight to Asia by 60 percent since before the pandemic.
