The new Felipe Carrillo Puerto Tulum International Airport project is expected to be finished by the end of this year, as announced by Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, as reported by Riviera Maya News.

Officials in Quintana Roo have said that they expect the new Tulum airport to be finished by December. According to a previous report on Travel Pulse, the airport project will feature a six-mile commercial corridor that will be “integrated with the current highway system and sections 5, 6, and 7 of the upcoming Maya Train.”

The airport will have luxury amenities and a flexible military base for an estimated price of $760 million. Security and state emergency services will also have a major hub at the property. The airport will also be built to withstand hurricanes of up to Category 5 strength.

The announcement was made by President Lopez Obrador and Governor Lezama Espinosa during a visit to the Tulum airport construction site.

The Tulum Airport, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, is a brand-new “marvel of civil-military engineering” and the labor of exceptional Mexican workers, according to President Lopez Obrador. “We are carrying out for the first time the evaluation of section 5 of the Maya Train where the Tulum Airport is being built,” he said.

“In December it will be possible to fly to anywhere in Mexico and the world,” he added.

With more than 30 million annual passengers, Governor Lezama expressed gratitude to the Secretary of National Defense for their efforts on the new airport, estimating its completion for “December of this year.”
