A new hotel will debut in this California beach town just steps from the shore
Carmel-by-the-Sea’s allure as the newest must-visit location in California is a fantastic reason to take a trip there.
Located on a picturesque length of coastline just off California’s famous Highway 1, this posh district has recently attracted a number of young, innovative chefs and has seen the opening of numerous new boutique hotels. Travel + Leisure reports that this June, Carmel Beach Hotel will debut as the following retreat in this idyllic setting.
The Carmel Beach Hotel will function like a members-only club, notes the outlet, exclusively serving its visitors. This features a small spa, a fitness center, and, most significantly, Secoya restaurant. Chef Justin Cogley, who also runs the lone Michelin-starred restaurant in town at L’Auberge Carmel’s sister resort, is in charge of the restaurant. According to Cogley, the idea will be “a more casual, market-driven menu inspired by the ocean,” which will be accompanied by a wine program showcasing Californian, local, and European wines.
In addition to a lunch menu that includes items like fresh salads, slow-poached salmon, local oysters, and seasonal specialties that will feature one of California’s most coveted delicacies, Dungeness crab, guests will be receiving curated breakfast baskets delivered to their rooms each morning. Secoya takes advantage of Carmel’s Mediterranean-like weather with its outside dining area and outdoor cooking line, each of which was inspired by Cogley’s love of grilling on his days off. Meals can also be served inside at the bar or in the privacy of your own accommodation.
Later in the summer, diners can sit down to a prix fixe menu that varies from night to night. Up until that time, guests can choose from a menu of Cogley’s personal favorites like charred avocado with furikake and toasted buckwheat crackers, Morro Bay oysters with chili crunch and Meyer lemon from a tree on the property, or something heartier like a croque madame made with aged comté.
The property’s 26 rooms, which are dispersed among seven structures, will act as secluded havens. Carmel’s surroundings will be reflected in the interior design, with rich green highlights evoking cypress trees and blue-gray carpets featuring an abstract wave design that references the neighboring waves. Additionally, the majority of the rooms will include stand-alone Victoria + Albert soaking tubs, roaring fireplaces, and furnished patios with expansive Pacific Ocean views. The hotel will also be the community’s closest lodging to the beach, capping off the whole package.
The nightly rate for lodging begins at $450. Visit the Carmel Beach Hotel website for more details or to make a reservation.
