Skyscanner introduces tool to help travelers find the cheapest time to book flights
Looking for the best flight deals can be an endless task. The constant search and comparison between multiple websites can cause you to wonder if you are getting the best deal. One of the best search engines to help erase the doubt is Skyscanner.
Conde Nast Traveler shared the exciting news about the platform developing and implementing a new tool to help travelers find the best possible trip rates.
The Savings Generator tool will “help travelers save big on flight tickets by identifying the optimal times to book and choosing the cheapest day of the week to travel—all based on previous data on flight prices.”
The generator is still in beta mode, but is already showing promising results.
The outlet shared the results of an international airfare search from New York to Athens, Greece. The results showed a little under seven months was the best time to book the trip. It also advised that the cheapest day to depart would be a Monday.
The generator considers a few things when finding the best bang for your buck. Prices can change depending on destination, departure location and month of travel.
Jemma Porter of Skyscanner told Conde Nast the tool should significantly impact travel during the “cost-of-living” crisis society is currently in.
“According to our research, 19 percent of people think that the cost of flights is the most important consideration when booking a trip,” Porter said. “So, we’re putting our data to good use by helping you find the best time to book.”
While travel is consistently rising post-pandemic, the cost of airfare is not a good representation of supply vs. demand. CNN reports that international airfares from the U.S. jumped by 50 percent this year compared to the same time in 2022, and domestic flights are about 20 percent more expensive than in 2022.
The Savings Generator is still in development, but Skyscanner projects the tool will significantly assist travelers. It will not only determine the average price for a route, but you’ll also know if you’re paying a typical price for your ticket. It will provide users with the cheapest and the most expensive days of the week to fly on a selected route each month of the travel year. It will also detail how far in advance you should book based on historical average prices.
