Smino, Thundercat, and Masego announced as Music at the Intersection 2023 performers
In 2022, Music at the Intersection really found its footing. In its second year, almost 8,000 music fans packed Grand Center to enjoy performances from a wide variety of artists. The majority were locals, but there were also visitors that took the trip to be in attendance.
The festival’s schedule has been revealed and it will feature a lineup that organizers predict will attract nearly twice as many attendees as last year when it returns to St. Louis, Missouri’s Grand Center Arts District on Sept. 9–10.
The celebrated contemporary jazz musician Thundercat, Jamaican-American, Grammy-nominated singer and saxophonist Masego, and Grammy Award-winning jazz-fusion group Snarky Puppy are among the festival’s headliners for its third iteration. Legendary jazz pianist Herbie Hancock, acclaimed bluesman Taj Mahal, and St. Louis R&B singer-songwriter Angela Winbush are among the 2023 performers for Music at the Intersection, which continues the festival’s legacy of showcasing foundational music greatness.
The Saturday, September 9 lineup also includes Keyon Harrold with Pharoahe Monch and STOUT, The Suffers, Denise Thimes, Earthworms, Ravyn Lenae, Peter Martin with Dianne Reeves, Nate Smith with Jason Lindner, Tim Lefebvre, and more.
Herbie, Thundercat, and Taj Mahal will be joined on the bill by a Vulfpeck spinoff on Sunday, September 10. Australian blues-rockers Tank and the Bangas, the Fearless Flyers, and NOLA favorites The Teskey Brothers are wild partygoers. Samantha Fish, a blues musician, and Andy Frasco & The U.N.
Additionally, STL Today reports that Music at the Intersection will commemorate hip-hop’s 50th anniversary and the wide-ranging influences it has had on modern culture by featuring prominent hip-hop artists and DJs from all over the nation, including legendary DJ Grandmaster Flash, NYC funk group Cameo, two-time Grammy Award-winning Atlanta group Arrested Development, new school NYC hip-hop act Phony Ppl, and a variety of St. Louis-based hip-hop artists and DJs.
Food, art, and culture, such as b-boying and b-girling performances and graffiti painting, will round out the event. There will be food trucks and local artisans offering their goods at The Walls Off Washington.
