Since working remotely is more prevalent now than ever, many people are taking advantage of their increased mobility by conducting their business from locations they might not otherwise have the chance to spend time in. Colombia’s own digital nomad program was introduced last month, and the country is now seeking to promote the advantages of the program to potential tourists who might be interested in applying.

In a recent article, International Living ranked Colombia as one of the most inexpensive countries to call home in 2023. According to Thrillest, the six regions of Colombia are still in the same time zone as the United States, which is beneficial because it prevents you from having to endure a harsh time difference when working remotely. There are definitely additional advantages to living in this beautiful country.

“Colombia is thrilled to share with digital nomads the privilege of working from the second most biodiverse country in the world,” Carmen Caballero, President of ProColombia, part of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Tourism, said in a statement. “Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena, Cali, the Coffee Landscape, and other destinations offer a variety of coworking spaces and accommodations with specific programs developed for more extended stays where remote workers will have unforgettable experiences.”

Coworking spaces like Selina in Medellin and El Nido Coworking in Bogotá, as well as hotels that have promoted themselves as top remote work sites with rapid Wi-Fi connections, are just some of the spots that ProColombia has highlighted as places to work. Long-term stay packages have even been introduced by several travel agencies.

The digital nomad visa in Colombia allows for a stay of up to two years in the country. To apply for the visa, your passport must be from a country on the list of those that are eligible. You cannot use this visa to launch a business in Colombia; instead, you must show that you have secured work in your home country. There is a page on the Colombian government’s website devoted to helping digital nomads, such as a list of the country’s most inviting cities.
