5 Black-owned businesses Lupe Fiasco can ‘kick, push’ his way into as he heads to Yale
Lupe Fiasco has found his niche in academia and isn’t leaving yet. The Grammy Award winner announced he was selected to be a Saybrook Fellow at Yale University this fall.
The rapper posted the good news on his Twitter at the end of March.
“Proud to announce I’ve been chosen to be a Saybrook Fellow at my OTHER favorite school in the whole wide world outside of MIT…@Yale Shout to Tom Near for nominating me to a place where against all odds two Chicagoans found a home in the Ivy League.”
Tom Near responded to Lupe’s tweet welcoming “Professor Lupe Fiasco” to Saybrook.
Lupe hasn’t revealed the full details of his fellowship. According to Saybrook College’s website, however, the fellowship “is intended in part to provide a meeting ground for scholars from various disciplines “and “provide students and Fellows with opportunities for discussion in an atmosphere less formal than the classroom.”
The “Superstar” rapper began his walk into education in 2022 when he became a visiting professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as part of their MLK Visiting Professor Program. He taught a course on rap theory and practice. According to Complex, before taking on his teaching role, Lupe was a Visiting Artist at the MIT Center for Art, Science & Technology from 2020-21.
As he prepares to take his talents to New Haven, we found some Black-owned businesses that the new professor may want to “kick, push” his way into.
