From Atlanta to New York: Listen to this Diddy Verzuz Jermaine Dupri playlist

Sean “Diddy” Combs and Jermaine Dupri have confirmed they will go head-to-head in a Verzuz battle this year. Fans began pushing the idea of the face-off between the two hip-hop moguls after it was suggested in 2022.

The So So Def founder officially confirmed the battle with the original Bad Boy on the “I Am Athlete” podcast. “It’s coming next year…,” Dupri confirmed on the podcast, which was filmed in December 2022. “It’s gonna be like the Super Bowl.”

The two entertainers rose to fame as the head of their record labels. Both launching in 1993, they reigned over their respective regions.

So So Def, based in Atlanta, was formed by Dupri as a spin-off from his production company. After successfully molding the career of the rap duo Kriss Kross, he launched the label to replicate that magic. His first contract went to the R&B group, Xscape. His roster grew to include artists like Da Brat, Bow Wow and Jagged Edge. Dupri is also revered for his writing and production skills. Credits include several songs from Usher’s second album, “My Way.” He also helped pen several songs on Monica’s second album, “The Boy is Mine.”

Sean “Diddy” Combs, also known as “Love,” had a similar rise to fame as a behind-the-scenes hitmaker. Bad Boy Records had New York on lock when it launched. Bad Boy gave the world artists such as Craig Mack, Lil Kim, Faith Evans, and The Notorious B.I.G., who has been named one of the best rappers ever. In addition to his development of music artists, Diddy has continued to expand his empire into media and television. His media conglomerate, Revolt, was launched in 2013.

There’s no argument that Combs and Dupri significantly influenced the soundtracks of the 90s and 00s. As we prepare for the battle between the two creative geniuses, here is a playlist to remind you how epic this Verzuz will be:
