New York Fashion Week kicks off on February 10 and runs through February 15. We hope you have your best looks together as the events bring out the best in fashion design, styling, and editorial.

The fashion elite take over the city as multiple runways, showroom exhibits, and networking events celebrating the start of a new season for the fashion industry.

The semi-annual event has immensely evolved from its start in 1943, known as “press week.”

NYFW is synonymous with events that premiere the designs of the industry’s most renowned fashion houses and is a launch pad for newcomers that have caught the attention of the “in vogue” crowd.

The spring occasion starts the fashion fury that continues in Paris, London, and Milan.

Co-producers IMG and CFDA released the official schedule last month for the week. Some events are private and only reserved for heavy hitters personally invited by the designers, some are open to the public, and those lucky enough to snag tickets can attend. Several events showcasing new designers and models openly welcome a crowd, hoping to increase their visibility. This year will also allow for digital showings, including the Black-owned brand, Bed on Water.

WWD broke down the schedule for the week, highlighting shows that will surely leave an imprint on the fashion world.

This year we see an influx of Black designers and brands aiding the industry’s much-needed lack of diversity.

Diomata, Tia Adeola, and Jeofroi kick off the presentation of Black designers on February 11, along with veteran Heron Preston.

The Black in Fashion Council Discovery Showrooms will spotlight several designers, including Made by Ciraco, Oak & Acorn, and Ella Lisque.

In honor of Black History Month, IMG revealed they will present two social series to celebrate Black individuals in the fashion community. According to WWD, the first will be “Spotlight Series – Black Impact,” highlighting designers, models, photographers, stylists, executives, and industry leaders. The second, titled “Where It Came From,” will educate on trends that originated from Black culture.

LaQuan Smith’s highly anticipated show is the finale on February 13.

The outlet also reports that other Black brands and designers that will present this year include, Studio 189, Tiffany Brown Design, Sukeina, Marrisa Wilson, Dur Doux, Eugene Taylor Brand, Junny, Black Boy Knits, House of Aama, Kevan Hall, Chuks Collins, Frederick Anderson, and Luar.

The full schedule for NYFW and information about the brands/designers included can be found on www.NYFW.com.
