Love is not in the air: Massachusetts ranked loneliest state on Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and love is in the air - unless you live in Massachusetts. Ironically known as “The Bay State,” a new study by Bet Massachusetts found out the state has “no baes.”
The study utilized data from Google Analytics and search trends to come up with the sad conclusion.
Over three years, the outlet monitored which states searched for online love on February 14. “Tinder,” “Bumble,” and “Hinge” were noted to be the top apps used in the study.
Massachusetts came out on top after research showed their residents seemed to be anti-love.
The list of lonely, Anti-Valentines’s Day states includes:
Massachusetts
Oregon
Connecticut
Washington
California
New York
Maryland
Colorado
Utah
Nebraska
The website claims the state may be lonely because of its capital city. Boston was ranked number 30 in America’s “Loneliest Cities.” 2022 Census Beauru data showed that among Boston’s 271,941 households, 38.3 percent, or 104,215, is occupied by a single person.
The news was even worse for women as data noted that the city was ranked No. 11 in the nation for the most significant percentage of single-person female households. That’s a whopping 23.1 percent, with Boston men following at 15.1 percent. Unfortunately, the research found a trend in loneliness, stating, “the number of people living alone in Boston has increased 1.2% on average year-over-year since 2016.”
Surprisingly, the bustling city of Washington, DC, was listed as the loneliest city in America on that same list.
While the residents of Massachusetts may not want to swipe right or cuddle up for Valentine’s Day, multiple venues in the area hold events for singles and the residents who are anti-love.
The Local Today shared some exciting events, including a drag brunch, a zombie prom, and a tour of the tombs at the King’s Chapel.
