Lil Wayne, an early innovator in the rap genre, is touring in support of his latest album, “Tha Carter.” The New Orleans-bred rapper will kick off his 14-city “Welcome to Tha Carter Tour” in April, with stops in major cities like Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Philadelphia, and more before wrapping up in Atlanta, as announced by Live Nation on Tuesday.

The “Lollipop” rapper will set it off on April 4 at Minneapolis’s The Fillmore, with support from Young Money and Rolling Loud. Before wrapping up at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on May 13, the tour will make stops in Boston, New York, Atlanta, Detroit and Toronto, Canada, as noted by Billboard.

In addition, the tour announcement comes before The Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective pre-Grammy event, where Lil Wayne will be honored with the prestigious Global Impact Award for his individual and professional accomplishments in the music business.

Sylvia Rhone, CEO of Epic Records, is also among the honorees, along with Dr. Dre and Missy Elliott. The Hollywood Palladium will open its doors to the awards show on February 2, one day before the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. Music for the ceremony will be provided by Grammy nominee and first-time collaborator Adam Blackstone, and Rico Love, Vice Chair of the Recording Academy Board of Trustees, will serve as the ceremony’s host.

According to Okayplayer, Tha Carter VI and I Am Not A Human Being III are soon to be released by Weezy, who most recently released the 2020 album Funeral. The 5-time Grammy winner recently appeared in the new House Party film alongside Snoop Dogg, Tinashe, Lena Waithe, LeBron James, and more.
