From Atlanta, these five destinations makes for perfect last-minute international getaways
There are more than 50 nonstop flights you can take from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, served by more than 20 airlines. Touch down in tropical Nassau, Bahamas in less than 2 hours or go as far-off as Calgary, Canada (in a little more than 4 hours).
Belize City, Belize (BZE) 3 hours
Adventure-seekers are only a short boat ride or drive away from enjoying a snorkel or dive trip to Goff’s Caye, an island off the coast of Belize. Stand right on the reef for snorkeling and manatee-watching.
Bonaire, Caribbean Netherlands (BON) 4 hours
Explore the island from flat bottom boats that will take you on dives directly from your accommodations to sites on the island or Bonaire’s National Marine Park, which offers over 80 dive sites. A world-renowned diving destination with crystal blue waters, this Dutch island just outside of the hurricane zone in the Caribbean uses the American dollar as its official currency.
Calgary, Canada (YYC) 4 hours, 30 minutes
Visit Winsport, a year-round sport and recreation hub that’s home to the Calgary Olympic Park. Site of the XV Winter Olympics in 1988, winter activities include skiing and snowboarding and bobsledding. In the warmer months, zipline or mountain bike down the ski slopes and hills.
Nassau, Bahamas (NAS) 2 hours
A visit to the capital city of the Bahamas would not be complete without learning some history while basking in the Caribbean sun. To that end, it’s far more rewarding and entertaining to go on a guided food tour to taste and see the cultural influences that have defined Bahamian cuisine.
Cancun, Mexico (CUN) 2 hours, 30 minutes
Known for its beaches, resorts and nightlife, there’s more to do here than reminisce about college spring break. Walk among ruins, see ancient skeletons, relics and artifacts from Chichen Itza and other Mayan sites around the Yucatan peninsula at Museo Maya Cancun and San Miguelito Ruins. In the jungle, discover Mayan history and a spread of temples, pyramids and family homes.
