Travel around Germany to historic locations of Black influence for less than 10 euros
This summer, Germany has introduced a nationwide travel pass for only 9 euros, making it an ideal destination to get the most use from your euro for the months of June, July and August. Cities like Berlin and Munich often rank highly as destinations for Black travelers given the impact that Black people have had in the area.
There are iconic historical moments like Jesse Owens’ appearance at the 1936 Olympics, which challenged notions of supposed racial superiority, or Martin Luther King’s 1964 visit, during which he ignored his handlers’ sectarian requests and spoke to East and West Berliners alike.
Travelers planning to visit may wish to connect with the group @afro.kultur which hosts Black spaces to connect in Germany, or to attend the Afrikanisches Kulturfest in Frankfurt in July.
