Black hair shouldn’t need legislation to protect it, but it does: The CROWN Act is a first step
Black people, especially women, can face racial discrimination based on their hair. Legislation known as the CROWN Act, which states for Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair is designed to prevent such discrimination.
These laws are happening at a state level, and the map illustrates which states which states have passed the CROWN Act, which states have introduced the legislation, which states have introduced legislation that was inspired by the CROWN Act and finally which states have not introduced the legislation at all.
