Course Overview
With over 1,000 webinars every year, 700+ self-study courses available 24/7, and four different packages with inclusive pricing for every budget, Becker CPE easily earns a spot on this list. Compared to other prep providers, I found Becker’s video courses to be not only the most entertaining, but the most actionable, with the library including courses such as:

The rating system made it easy to choose which course to listen to next (I’d pick a 4.8 with 300+ ratings over an unrated course, for example), and a lot of the instructors I enjoyed from their CPA, CMA, EA, and CIA prep courses are back, with personalities for days. Tim Gearty is one of my favorites, and his “Role of the Leader in Talent Development” course was equally eye-opening and entertaining.
In the 1-hour 40-minute presentation, I learned how to separate good leaders from bad ones, as well as receive unique, insightful strategies to help employees feel more valued (which is especially important for me as a leader; I want my employees to feel seen and heard).

Surgent stands out from the crowd in one clear area: live webinars. When I dug into their catalog, I was impressed by just how massive it is. With 8,500+ CPE credits from over 2,300 live events, daily webinars, and an active schedule that often felt like there was something happening right now, they are in a league of their own for live participation.
Unlike some providers where live events are an afterthought, Surgent’s calendar feels like a core product feature. I found myself genuinely planning study blocks around live sessions because the interactive format helped me stay engaged and on pace. Illumeo CPE offers a monumental library, jam-packed with over 3,000 self-study courses, both PDF and on-demand. Though there were only 120 webinars to choose from, the self-study selection more than made up for it. Plus, I could choose nano courses—short courses worth <1 credit—or micro certifications—small course lists around a central topic + certification)—which helped to shake up the experience when things were getting a little repetitive (as all CPE eventually does).

Lambers is best known for their CPA exam prep software, but after testing some of the materials, I can confidently say that their CPE courses are a hidden gem in their offer suite. While they do offer a smaller course count (just ~50 webinars and 350+ self-study courses), the courses feel hyper-targeted to actual skills and helpful strategies for navigating the workplace and day-to-day life of a CPA. Tack on the lower price, and Lambers is a phenomenal deal, particularly if you want something quick, easy, and straightforward to fulfill your CPE requirements.

I’m not naturally talented at Excel, so I was particularly excited for David Ringstrom’s “Exceptional Excel – Linked Workbooks” course, and I wasn’t disappointed. I especially liked how he would lay out a topic and immediately dive into an example using a real Excel sheet, showing the steps in real-time, so I was learning both the “cognitive level” and “application level” of things.
All in all, Lambers offers a lot of balance. The interface looks a bit dated, and ethics courses aren’t available for every U.S. state and jurisdiction, but I still really enjoyed my time and learned some new skills I can actually A) still remember the steps for, and B) use in real life.

If you’re a CPA, then the AICPA organization name should obviously ring a bell; they’re the creators of the CPA exam, as well as being the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. You may even already be a member, which qualifies you for a discount on AICPA’s CPE subscriptions. Unsurprisingly, I found AICPA’s CPE courses to be professional, high-quality, and well-produced. However, what surprised me was the small amount of content available, with only ~80 webinars and ~100 on-demand courses to choose from.

Personally, NATP’s CPE courses felt similar to AICPA packages in a lot of ways. They’re produced by a reputable professional organization, the content feels accurate and up to date, and the overall experience is simple and structured. The biggest standout for me was how “seasonal” the content library is. Because NATP is so tax-driven, the courses naturally tilt toward annual updates, federal changes, and tax-focused refreshers that feel especially relevant during busy season.
That said, the library is noticeably limited compared to providers like Becker, Illumeo, or MYCPE ONE. And while NATP does offer a mix of webcast and self-study credits, the Basic and Professional packages felt surprisingly light, with fewer than 18 total credits included. For many CPAs, that won’t be nearly enough to stay compliant.
Still, if you’re already an NATP member, the pricing is hard to beat. And if tax-heavy content is what you want, NATP delivers it in a concise, digestible way.

The biggest advantage is the price. MasterCPE is one of the most affordable providers I tested, and the subscription gives you access to over 300 courses, which is a respectable number. Ethics coverage is limited (33 states), and customer service can be frustratingly slow, but for CPAs who want the cheapest legitimate CPE they can get, MasterCPE still offers some value.

Further, customer service is notoriously difficult to reach, and it isn’t just me; this is a common complaint.
