Kevin Spacey’s bag is packed, his Florida Panthers jersey at the ready.
It appears he’s headed south and will finally see his favorite hockey team in person.
Spacey, the Oscar-winning actor who has become the Panthers ‘good luck charm’ as he told NBC’s Today a few weeks ago, is expected to attend Florida’s game Saturday night against the Detroit Red Wings at BB&T Center.
Although the Panthers wouldn’t confirm Spacey’s plans, word is he will drop the ceremonial first puck and likely meet with the team on Saturday.
On Thursday, Spacey sent out a video through his Twitter account of him packing a bag. After zipping it up, he unzipped it and placed the custom Florida Panthers jersey he has worn in previous videos shown by the team at games.
In the tweet, Spacey wrote: “No blarney … Spacey IS in space” and tagged the Panthers.
The Panthers have been awarding their top player a blue, hooded sweatshirt with the image of Spacey’s face on it since December.
Dubbed ‘Spacey In Space’ after Sasha Barkov was first spotted wearing it in the locker room by the Miami Herald in December, the sweatshirt has gone on to have a life of its own.
Not only did Spacey receive one on the Today set, but ESPN SportsCenter hosts have worn them and the team has been selling out of replica sweatshirts since they started selling them — with proceeds going to charity — in January.
Although the team has been very tight-lipped about what the significance of the sweatshirts mean, one player said members of the team met Spacey in December when the Panthers were in New York.
The team subsequently went on a franchise-record 12-game winning streak.
