Northeast wins Region 4-6A girls’ basketball final, ending Norland’s season
Late in the third quarter, the host Northeast girls’ basketball team started a 24-4 run to end the game and Norland’s season Saturday night, winning the Region 4-6A final 65-48.
Northeast (19-7) will make its first trip to state since 1983. The Vikings (18-10) will miss state for the first time in four years.

FOOTBALL
Dr. Krop announced the hiring of Mike Farley, a longtime defensive coordinator in Florida, as its new head coach.
Farley, a West Virginia native, was a linebacker at Marshall University in 1995 and a member of the Herd’s national runner-up team in what was then Division I-AA that season.
Before moving to Florida, Farley coached on the college level at West Virginia Tech and high school level at Gauley Bridge High, which he helped to its first winning season and back-to-back playoff appearances in the previous 20 years.
In Florida, Farley has coached at Port St. Lucie Centennial, Fort Pierce Central, Treasure Coast and most recently at Lehigh in Fort Myers.
Farley was also named the St. Lucie County Alternative Education Teacher of the Year in 2014. Farley replaces David Hudson, who stepped down after the end of the season. Farley will try to turn around a program that has not made the playoffs since 2012.
