Florida surrendered a school-record 645 yards in its 42-21 loss No. 3 Alabama, and according to Pro Football Focus, the sabermetrics tell an even scarier story.
According to the website, the Gators whiffed on 30 tackles, including four each by linebacker Michael Taylor and defensive backs Brian Poole and Jabari Gorman.
Florida was dreadful on third down — on both sides of the ball — and eventually ran out of gas after tying the game at 21 early in the third quarter.
“Offensively, we were just 2 of 13 on third down,” coach Will Muschamp said. “We couldn’t stay on the field and couldn’t get off the field defensively. It was a long game, and we just wore down. … We had some tempo planned for the game, but we couldn’t sustain drives offensively and if you can’t stay on the field, it’s tough.”
