Los Angeles Rams 2026 Training Camp Position Battle to Watch

NFL teams have wrapped up their respective organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamps, and after a near month-long break, they'll pick things back up near the end of July for training camp.

The first preseason game takes place on Thursday, Aug. 6 on NBC when the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals face off in the Hall of Fame Game. The rest of the preseason's first week will take place from Aug. 13-15, followed by Week 2 on Aug. 20-23, and Week 3 on Aug. 27-29.

But before the preseason gets underway, teams must first report to training camp. The Los Angeles Rams haven't announced the exact day they report to camp, but below is their biggest position battle to watch this summer.

Position Battle: TE | Colby Parkinson vs. Tyler Higbee vs. Davis Allen vs. Terrance Ferguson vs. Max Klare

The Rams were heavily criticized for not taking USC receiver Makai Lemon with the 13th overall pick in the 2026 draft and opting to grab Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson instead.

That decision leaves the Rams with very little behind WRs Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, and the team will likely rely heavily on their tight ends for supplemental support in the pass game.

The two best seasons of Colby Parkinson's career have come with the Rams, including a career-best 43 catches, 408 yards, and eight touchdowns last season as the team's TE1 - a role he presumably will take into training camp, where he'll have to fend off four other capable pass-catchers.

Tyler Higbee has spent his entire 10-year career with the Rams. Injuries have limited him to just 13 games combined over the last two season, but he played in 15 or more games in his first eight seasons.

Higbee has three seasons with 60 or more catches, and four seasons with 500 or more yards, and if he's healthy, he should be either LA's TE1 or TE2.

Davis Allen (24 catches, 208 yards, three touchdowns) and Terrance Ferguson (11 receptions, 231 yards, three touchdowns) both had solid seasons in depth roles last year, and both should be right in the mix again this season.

Max Klare is the wild card. He finished his college career with 116 receptions, 1,329 years, six touchdowns in three seasons (two with Purdue, one with Ohio State), and the Rams invested a second-round pick in him, so they presumably see something in him that makes them think he can step into a starting role at some point.
