NASCAR at Pocono Weather Report: Will There Be Any Rain Delays?

The weather has been a factor in NASCAR for weeks on end. It seems like the sport cannot escape its kryptonite. Last week at Michigan, rain was a threat, but luckily it held off. The same issue occurred in Nashville. At the Coca-Cola 600, the race was cut short, and Daniel Suarez was crowned the winner after 373 laps.

NASCAR is now in the Appalachian mountains of eastern Pennsylvania, specifically the Pocono mountains. The host? The Tricky Triangle at Pocono Raceway. Here is what fans can expect from the skies over the course of the race weekend.

The current probability of rain around the new green flag time is 4%. The National Weather Service labels Sunday as "Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m." Thunderstorms can bring gusts of wind up to 30 miles per hour. Rain will drastically increase to 48% at 3:00 p.m. and 67% at 6:00 p.m.

Pocono Raceway does not have lights, so that can put a race finish in doubt. Sunset is at 8:32 p.m.

The temperature will be pleasant, when not raining, in the mid-to-high 70 degrees all afternoon long.

Pocono Raceway is a 2.5-mile triangle, among the longest tracks in all of NASCAR. To dry the track can take up to 2 hours, depending on the severity of the rain.
