NASCAR Hall Of Famer Ned Jarrett Has Died
On the heels of NASCAR legend Kyle Busch passing away at the age of 41, another NASCAR trailblazer has tragically left us this week as NASCAR Hall of Famer Ned Jarrett passed away. He was 93 years old.
Jarrett's family announced today that he passed away on Thursday at his home in Newton, North Carolina. He was surrounded by family and died of natural causes.
"With profound sadness, the family of NASCAR Hall of Fame driver and radio/TV personality, Ned Jarrett, announces his passing on Thursday, June 4, 2026. He died peacefully of natural causes at his home in Newton, N.C. with his family by his side. He was 93 years old. Our father was a devout Christian and a devoted, loving, family man. He was a friend to everyone he met and NASCAR's oldest living champion. By all accounts, he was a true NASCAR legend. While we mourn his passing, we celebrate the remarkable life of an amazing man and truly the best father anyone could have wished for. Rest in Peace, Dad," the family said in a statement.
The Legacy of Ned Jarrett
On the track, Jarrett was a force to be reckoned with for 13 years. He was a two-time winner of the NASCAR Grand National Series, claiming titles in 1961 and 1965. He won 50 out of 352 career races and finished in the top-10 239 times.
But Jarrett was more than just a racer. He became one of the great announcers for TV and radio broadcasts of NASCAR for years after retiring.
Jarrett instilled racing in his family too. His son Dale Jarrett went on to become a NASCAR champion in his own right and a three-time winner of the Daytona 500.
In the years since he retired, Jarrett has received countless accolades for his achievements as a driver and broadcaster. He was voted one of the 50 best drivers of all-time in 1998, one of the 75 best drivers of all-time in 2023, elected to the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2011, elected to the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1991 and added to the Talladega Walk of Fame in 1997 - among many others.
Our hearts go out to Jarrett's family and loved ones.
