Orioles' IL Hits 13 After Dylan Beavers Suffers Oblique Strain
The Baltimore Orioles' infirmary is working overtime so far this season. On Wednesday, the team placed outfielder Dylan Beavers on the 10-Day IL with an oblique strain.
The addition of Beavers brings the Orioles' injured list to 13 players, third-most in MLB behind only the Detroit Tigers (15) and Houston Astros (14). It also thins out Baltimore's outfield depth and will certainly force the team to continue playing the struggling Colton Cowser in center field. Leody Taveras and Weston Wilson should get more run as outfield depth pieces as well.
Beavers, 24, injured his right oblique during batting practice before Tuesday's game against the New York Yankees. The former first-round draft pick is slashing .243/.331/.369 this year, with a pair of home runs, 12 RBI, and three stolen bases. He has appeared in 33 of the Orioles' 43 games so far this season, mostly as the team's right fielder.
With his addition to the IL, Beavers joins a crowded list of players that includes Jackson Holliday (Hamate), Heston Kjerstad (hamstring), and Jordan Westburg (elbow). All three were projected to be starters for the Orioles this year, but have yet to suit up in a game at the big league level. LHP Grant Wolfram was also added to the list earlier this week, retroactive to May 9th, with a lower back injury.

RHP Dean Kremer (quad)
2B Jackson Holliday (hamate, rehab)
OF Heston Kjerstad (hamstring, rehab)
RHP Yaramil Hiraldo (shoulder, 60-day)
RHP Colin…
Help should be on the way for the O's, as both Holliday and Kjerstad are currently on rehab assignments with Triple-A Norfolk. Baltimore also managed to have some rare good injury luck when Samuel Basallo was able to return to the lineup on Tuesday, after sitting out Monday's game with left knee discomfort. Basallo was involved in a heavy collision at home plate with Athletics outfielder Carlos Cortes.
Despite the long list of injuries, the Orioles have managed to stay in contention. As of May 13th, Baltimore sits in third place in the AL East division and is just two games back of the final AL Wild Card spot. The Orioles conclude their three-game series against New York on Wednesday afternoon at Camden Yards.
