Chiefs HC Andy Reid Announces Patrick Mahomes News on Monday
Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs did not have the 2025 NFL season they were hoping for. After starting the year with a 5-3 record, the Chiefs dropped eight of their last nine games, finishing at 6-11 and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014. To make matters worse, Kansas City was missing star quarterback Patrick Mahomes for the final stretch of the season.
Mahomes only appeared in 14 games for the Chiefs in 2025 due to tearing his ACL in the Week 15 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Still, when he did play, the former Texas Tech star continued to prove that he is still one of the best quarterbacks in the league, completing 315-of-502 passes for 3,587 yards, 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, adding another 422 yards and five scores on the ground.
Now, as we enter the week of the 2026 NFL Draft, where Kansas City will select at No. 9 and No. 29, the Chiefs began their voluntary offseason program on Monday. The first phase of the program will focus on strength and conditioning, along with some rehab work, and Mahomes has elected to join his teammates as he continues to eye a Week 1 return for the 2026 NFL season.
Amid the Chiefs' offseason program, Reid spoke to the media during an online press conference. And when asked about Mahomes' ACL recovery, the head coach revealed that the quarterback is still in the rehab phase and that he is doing "great."
"So he goes to the meetings. He can lift, do all that. Rehab. That's the phase he's in right now," Reid said. "We'll just see. Kind of play it by ear. See where he's at. He's doing great, but we've just got to be smart with this thing."
