Second Amendment

If the NRA and cowardly politicians interpret the Second Amendment as prohibiting expanded background checks and making it easy for civilians to possess military-style assault weapons, it’s time to repeal the Second Amendment.

It is being used in ways that the amendment’s drafters never would have envisioned.

Aside from the fact that the focus of the amendment is on the need for militias, so that civilians could organize into armed units to defend against foreign invaders, the Founding Fathers did not, in their wildest dreams, envision firearms much more advanced than the cumbersome muskets and flintlock pistols used at the time.

Though court interpretation of constitutional amendments does flex to meet evolving societal needs, in the case of the Second Amendment, it is being interpreted in a way that is adverse to society’s need for safety and security.
