Weather alert: Heavy rain, gusty wind, possible tornado hits North Broward
Commuters encountered rainy skies and wet roads Wednesday morning as a weather system rolled into South Florida.
A low-pressure system coming from the Gulf of Mexico will likely drench the region for the next two days and could produce “isolated tornadoes,” according to the National Weather Service.
Southwest Collier County and northern Monroe County were under a tornado warning early Wednesday. A tornado warning was put in effect until 10 a.m. for central Broward.
And a possible tornado touched down on the Broward College canmpus in Cocount creek, overturning a car.
“Seek shelter immediately,” the college warned students.
“It’s a wet start,” said CBS4 meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez.
Windy, too.
Wind gusts are being recorded at 28 to 32 mph.
Expect lightning, heavy rain and the possibility of tornadoes, she said Wednesday morning.

The system began moving Tuesday night and will show itself Wednesday, said National Weather Service meteorologist Barry Baxter. There could be strong storm cells bringing wind gusts of 60 mph, he said. South Florida may get at least an inch and a half of rain over the next two days.
“We are expecting a good amount of rain,” he said.
The wet weather will bring warmer temperatures. High temperatures for the next two days should be in the upper 70s, with lows in the lower 70s.
By Friday, a cold front is expected to come in from the north, slightly lowering the temperature. The low for Saturday morning is expected to be around 50 degrees.
“It will be a bit cooler by the end of the week,” he said. “But nothing too cold.”
