Dixie Chicks take a swipe at Donald Trump during first tour in years

The Dixie Chicks are still not ready to make nice.

The band is in the midst of a global comeback tour, and kicked off the American leg of the DCX World Tour MMXVI Wednesday in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Among the many set pieces behind the acclaimed country trio was an image of Donald Trump, adorned with devil’s horns, during Goodbye Earl.

While it turned plenty of heads Stateside, it’s a gimmick the band has been deploying since its European shows (the Evening Standard, among others, noted the provocative visual). The band has also made time for stellar covers, paying tribute to Prince and Beyonce.

Will this turn into Bushgate 2.0? The original version being in 2003 after Natalie Maines said the infamous words about the invasion of Iraq and then-President Bush that sparked a firestorm for the band: “We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas.”

Time will tell, and it’s worth noting when the Chicks began making fun of Trump, he was not yet the Republican nominee.

Lead singer Maines is nothing if not outspoken, and as the summer unfolds, she may find herself moved to speak out even more than she already has.

The Chicks return to Dallas for the first time in a decade Aug. 5 at Gexa Energy Pavilion.
