A dead body, sharp knives and blood aren’t typically the trappings of engagement photo shoots.

But for one Texas couple, those items played a key role in their murder-themed engagement photo shoot in Zilker Park in Austin. Shi Jaramillo and Patrick Reetz didn’t want a “stereotypical” photo session like all the other pictures they saw posted on Facebook, so they decided to take a more nontraditional approach to the ritual.

"If you can't trust your significant other to hide a body with you," Jaramillo told the San Antonio Express-News, "then you probably shouldn't get married."

The couple smeared fake blood on themselves, and had a life-sized doll wrapped in a body bag. They said no one in the park seemed to notice what they were doing with the help of their friend and photographer Asha Poyzer.

“I’m surprised no one called the cops,” Jaramillo said.

The couple met on OkCupid in 2014 and got engaged in Costa Rica. They are getting married on Sept. 11, because they said it was cheaper to book a wedding venue on that date, and cheapter for family to travel. They also wanted to create a positive connotation with the date associated with the largest terrorist attack on American soil.

The murder theme will carry over to the wedding, with red, black and white colors, and “anatomy parts on a mountain of red roses” used as centerpieces.

“We are meant for each other,” Jaramillo said.
