Record rain that closed off some hunting grounds doesn’t appear to have hurt Florida’s second Python Challenge.

This week, hunters set a new record, bagging 102 snakes as of Thursday, far outpacing the 68 snakes caught in the first hunt in 2012. Cold nights and sunny days likely gave this year’s hunters an advantage in finding the notoriously difficult to find snake.

The Challenge, created by the state to draw attention to the devastating impact of the snake on the Everglades, ends Sunday.
