Sanibel police officer shot during traffic stop
Sanibel police say an officer was shot during a routine traffic stop around 8 p.m. Sunday, according to TV station NBC2 in Fort Myers.
The incident took place on Sanibel Island, which is southwest of Fort Myers.
According to police, the suspect was located shortly after fleeing the scene, gunfire was exchanged, and the suspect is in custody.
The officer, identified by NBC2 as Jarrod Ciccone, was hospitalized, treated and released.
