After a complete reconstruction of the westernmost stretch of the Venetian Causeway, the scenic route across Biscayne Bay is expected to open again Feb. 29.

In an email sent last week to residents of the Venetian Islands, county officials said the $12.4 million project will be substantially completed by the end of February.

“Over the past seven months, significant construction has been accomplished that will result in a completely new bridge superstructure, substructure, approach roadway and lighting,” the email read.

The 90-year-old structure had become weak and dilapidated. Metal plates had patched parts of the bridge deck after a bus got stuck when a small hole opened up in March 2014.
