‘I thought it was a joke.’ Body washes up on Miami Beach shore during photo session

Michal Ignition was in Miami Beach taking photos of a client when his eye was drawn outside to the bay. Floating on the shore: a dead person.

Ignition, a photographer for 10 years, was on North View Drive late Tuesday morning taking head shots in a mansion. A few photos into the job, Ignition saw something out of the corner of his eye — the body in Biscayne Bay.

“I thought it was a joke,” Ignition said. “I’ve never seen anything like it in my life.”

Ignition called Miami Beach police, which he said sent five cruisers, Miami Beach Fire Rescue trucks, and boats. Soon after the call, authorities removed the body from the water.

Police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez said officers pulled a dead elderly male from the water near 1771 N. View Dr.

He said the preliminary investigation shows no apparent signs of foul play, but that the investigation is ongoing.
