Miami police identify men involved in fatal Model City crash
Miami police on Tuesday identified the two men who died in a violent crash in Model City the night before.
The driver of the car was identified as Lionel Guy Dorila, 21, and the bicyclist was Javier Muñoz, 44
Police also confirmed Tuesday that the black Infiniti that burst into flames after hitting a tree was "indeed stolen out of the Sunny Isles Police Department’s jurisdiction and detectives have determined that there was possibly some law enforcement involvement prior to the crash."
Police would not go into more detail.
According to police, the driver of the Infinity was speeding southbound on Northwest 12th Avenue and at Northwest 54th Street hit a bicyclist. Spokesman Lt. Freddie Cruz said the driver dragged the body for about a block before losing control and slamming into a tree. The car then burst into flames.
“Our family is devastated by what just happened and it feels surreal,” Dee Joseph, who identified herself as Dorila’s aunt, said in an e-mail. “ We are in disbelief. Our condolences to everyone impacted by this tragic accident. We lost a loved one who could never be replaced and as a grieving family, we just ask for the opportunity to mourn in peace.”
