For Cinco de Mayo, a mariachi band in the produce aisle
The opening of a new Publix in West Miami on Thursday, Cinco de Mayo, brought out free festive foods, café con leche and a roving mariachi band, which serenaded shoppers amid the avocados, tomatoes and guacamole.
Young and old sang, danced and applauded with a roaring Olé as the strolling troubadours — clad in their black-and-white charro outfits, playing their trumpets, violins and guitars — snaked around the store at Southwest 57th Avenue and 16th Street.
A little bit of culture on the way to work. You would have thought you were in Mexico.
