Jessica Crane hurt the two preschool age pedestrians she hit on May 7 when witnesses say her 2008 Infiniti jumped a University Drive sidewalk. Crane put the children’s mother, Michelle James, in critical condition. She attempted to leave the scene, witnesses told Miramar police. She faced three felony charges for that.
Now that James’ six-month-old fetus has died and the toxicology report shows Crane had a blood alcohol level of .22 almost three hours after the crash, she faces a total of 17 charges: Manslaughter DUI; DUI manslaughter (unlawful blood alcohol level); two counts of DUI with serious bodily injury; three counts of felony DUI; three counts of reckless driving with personal injury and property damage; leaving the scene of an accident with a death; vehicular homicide; leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury; leaving the scene of an accident with property damage; leaving the scene of an accident; and violation of license restrictions.
That last one comes from Crane’s previous DUI convictions, part of an abysmal driving record. Any car the 39-year-old Miamian drove was required to have an ignition interlock device. Her’s did not according to the conmplaint affidavit written by Miramar Police officer Eloy Gonzalez.
