A new car for the top speck of the one-percenters was unveiled in Miami on Friday.
Meet the Bugatti Chiron, that is if you have $2.5 million to spare.
So who has that kind of money to spend on a car?
“My question is how many people can afford a $20 million jet?” replied Bugatti’s Chief Operating Officer of the Americas, Maurizio Parlato who showed off the car at a private viewing at Braman Bugatti Miami on Friday. “Ask yourself how many jets or yachts there are here in Miami you can answer your question. Many people.”
Bugatti plans to sell 500 cars and has so far received advance orders for one-third of production worldwide. Florida, California and New York customers have bought the bulk of the U.S. orders. The car will be available in the United States next year.
The vast majority of the cars are purchased by men.
“It is definitely a man car,” Parlato said. “We have women driving, they are very important in the purchase decision because normally they come with a wife. They are a very important function in designing the car.”
The car can reach speeds of 261 miles per hour and was manufactured in France.
The Chiron was introduced in March 2016 at the Geneva International Motor Show and on Friday it had one of the first showings of the car in the United States. It will have viewings in California next.
