Brush fire cuts off Keys access; U.S. 1 open again

A brush fire burns in the woods off Card Sound Road near Florida City Monday night. The Florida Department of Transportation closed the 18 Mile Stretch in both directions and southbound Card Sound Road while firefighters battled the blaze. David Goodhue KeysReporter

Officials closed U.S. 1 near Florida City MOnday night due to smoky conditions caused by a brush fire. The road opened early Tuesday.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s Twitter account posted an update around 6:30 p.m. saying the brush fire near U.S. 1 and Card Sound Road closed U.S. 1 in both directions. Card Sound Road remained open.

#MDFR crews remain on scene of brush fire-Card Sound Rd is open, however US1 will remain closed in both directions due to smoke conditions.
