Miami-Dade police: Man arrested for killing his estranged wife
A man was arrested and charged with first-degree murder early Thursday morning after police say he shot and killed his estranged wife over the weekend and then took off.
Joe Padgett, 54, was being held Thursday at Miami-Dade's Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on no bond.
On Wednesday, police released a photo of Padgett, who detectives say confronted Katrina Padgett, 46, at her mother’s house, 12820 SW 268th St., at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
Police said Padgett pulled a gun and began shooting at his estranged wife and her mother, Sophia Cheeks. Cheeks was not injured, but Katrina Padgett died.
