After more than five hours in a standoff with what they thought was an armed person holding a hostage, Key West police entered the building and found ... nothing.

The drama ended at 2 a.m. Thursday when officers entered a Duval Street bed and breakfast, according to KeysInfoNet. On Wednesday night, officers went to the Duval House, 815 Duval St., after reports that a man was inside with a hostage, said city police spokeswoman Alyson Crean. Just after 11 p.m., a Key West officer with a bullhorn implored the suspect to surrender.

But when officers swept through the inn three hours later, they didn’t find anyone.

Police said they received a call saying the man stabbed a woman and was holding a teen hostage. Now, police think it may have been a hoax.
