Small plane makes emergency landing at Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport, pilot not injured
After reporting landing gear issues on a single engine prop plane Sunday afternoon, a pilot made an emergency landing at the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, according to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.
A call came in to the airport at 6000 NW 21st Ave. around noon that the plane's landing gear light was on. The pilot flew by the airport and workers from the ground saw that the landing gear was not down, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Capt. Greg May said.
So the pilot flew the plane around to burn gas, May said.
The pilot then got clearance to land and managed to bring the plane down on it's belly.
A Fire Rescue crew was waiting on the ground. May said there was a little smoke in the cockpit, but the pilot was able to walk away uninjured.
